Advanced Manufacture through Printing of Demonstrators based on Functionalised Nanomaterials

The focus of the project is to explore the use of carbon nanomaterials, including carbon nanotubes and graphene, within printed electronics and to produce demonstrators to showcase the technologies.

The effect of various functional groups, different forms of carbon nanomaterials and hybrid materials will all be investigated.

At present, the project is focusing on the development and characterisation of stretchable, conductive inks for use in wearable electronics. Initial experiments have shown promising results – particularly for the hybrid materials – and the next phase is to explore the cyclic loading characteristics of the inks which would replicate their use in a range of real-life applications.
