Cambrian Printers

Cambrian Printers

Cambrian Printers is a family owned Colour Printing business based in Aberystwyth.

The Requirement

To investigate the levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in the printing factory air. The impact of changes in production methods, replacement and relocation of equipment as well as extraction facilities and was evaluated.

The Solution

Cambrian Printers Ltd and WCPC worked together in the framework of the ERDF funded project DIPLE.

The project was run over a period of time as changes were made to the production process.

To assess the impact the changes had on VOC levels in the air, samples were gathered from strategic locations in the factory.

Samples were evaluated using GCMS and the results reported.

Benefits of this approach

Cambrian Printers were able to make changes in their factory that reduced VOC levels and improved the working environment while reducing emissions.

The company was better informed about the source of VOCs and how to reduce their levels.

What our clients said

“WCPC resources go above and beyond what we can achieve ourselves. They are a credible and independent support in the face of international suppliers of complex technology who declare something ‘is not my problem’. Their reports provide a lot of detail but with clear conclusions to allow confident practical implementation.

Their information is valid to assist management decision making and understandable for our workers, and has assisted in the change of attitudes and habits for the better.

In addition, their fast reaction time is important. WCPC has assisted us to reduce costly printed waste and its corresponding energy. Their VOC testing and noise assessments have allowed us to better understand these risks and make improvements to minimise them.”

Medical Spin Out

The expertise gained from the factory air testing was used in a study of COPD diagnosis from breath VOC profiling (200+ subjects) with Hywel Dda Health Board.
